THE LAST WATCHMAKERS

TIM STEWART

Horology refers to the study and measurement of time; and the art of making clocks and watches. It is an unassumingly important endeavour as everything in life is dictated by time.

Originally a boilermaker, Tim Stewart switched professions when his original trade began to affect his health. Stewart is now an apprentice watchmaker and the first to take up the trade in Victoria in five years. We caught up with this halcyon horologist to see what makes him tick.

Digital watches have a lifespan. Everything electric has a lifespan, usually up to 15 years for a quartz movement watch - whereas a mechanical watch can last for 100s of years if correctly restored.
